The Inclusive Growth Institute

Is the world we’re passing to our children one we can be proud of? Possibly not.

What if ...our education system was as much about creating citizens of the future as it is about preparing us for the world of work?

What if ...our priority in life was to leave a positive legacy for the next generation?

Group discussion focused around how education is at the heart of changing culture and mindset.  In short, we need to overhaul a system which is not fit for purpose and we honed in on the adult and further education sector. What skills do people need to build a better world? How do they learn these skills and how do we assess them? What does this new system look like? We have no idea. This challenge is mammoth, overwhelming and seemingly unachievable. But what we propose is a collaborative process we could use to start that discussion.

The idea

A new model for delivering lifelong learning to non-traditional, adult learners to provide them with the skills, knowledge and mindsets needed to thrive in tomorrow's society.

The model relies on the forming of inclusive and equal partnerships between the education sector (HEI's, FE) learners, parents and companies, organisations and governments to:

  1. Re-evaluate the purpose of education and define curriculum

  2. Form partnerships with a shared vision focused on learner outcomes and communal needs

  3. Design learner and focused pathways that are; relevant, personalised and respectful of learner needs and commitments

Value to end users

  • Learners - equipped with skills and competencies to deal with the future of work

  • Advocates - benefit from workforce of the future

  • Partners - motivated employee partner, network of collaborators

  • Institutions - combination of vocational and higher learning, survival & renewal, demonstrable social engagement & impact

What’s different?

  • Engaging with multiple stakeholders and perspectives to define/design the Institute

  • Providing a holistic, cross-disciplinary context for learning

  • A shared venture between all stakeholders and institutions working to their strengths

  • Shift of engagement and shared language between education and corporates

  • Whole new model: process, stakeholders, outcome, purpose

  • Focus on adult learners: build in 2nd chance - huge numbers of unemployed need be re-skilled to get back to work

  • A workforce less focused on making money and more focused on active management of a sustainable planet and communities

What’s needed to make it happen?
